SPOTLIGHT

Holding Schools Accountable for Creativity. Music Center Vice President for Education, Mark Slavkin, was one of the featured speakers at TEDx Manhattan Beach on October 22, 2011. He described how the No Child Left Behind law has narrowed the curriculum and made it more difficult to provide quality arts education programs. He proposed the development of a new “creativity index” to hold schools accountable for more than just math and reading test scores. Watch the video:

The Music Center is a national leader in arts education. In addition to our programs which directly serve schools, the Music Center has been an advocate on the state and national level for restoring arts education into the standard school curriculum. We are an active partner with several leading organizations to provide funding and supportive public policies for arts education.
